Frances Earline Copeland Brooks ended her earthly journey on Thursday, March 7, 2013, after an extended illness.
Born and raised in Alabama City, she was preceded in death by her father, William Desque Copeland; mother, Vinnie Tinker Williams; brother, Gordon Copeland; and husband Acton T. Brooks.
She is survived by her son, Richard Thomas Brooks; and grandson, Zachary Thomas Brooks.
During WWII Mrs. Brooks served her country by joining the Women’s’ Army Corp (WAC). Frances began a career in Direct Sales and became a Top National Sales Leader for Stanley Home Products, while working herself through college at Jacksonville State University, graduating with a degree in education.
Teaching children, and children’s children, Mrs. Brooks was on staff at Emma Sansom High School, Disque and set up the first multicultural girls physical education program at Carver High School. She retired with over 25 years’ service in the Etowah County School System.
Her Career not only included girls physical education, but also being involved in many civic organizations such as The Women’s Club. She was a political activist and had a very entrepreneurial spirit, organizing guided tour bus trips throughout the US and Canada.
In 2006, Mrs. Brooks was chosen First Runner-up and Ms. Congeniality in the Ms. Senior Etowah County Pageant.
One of her favorite hobbies was her love for karaoke; she won many local karaoke contests. Frances treasured the fact that she was a member of the “Golden Girls” and Vintage ladies, and enjoyed performing with them.
Frances had a very active lifestyle. She enjoyed her family and her many friends.
Being an animal lover, she left behind her precious “Baby”.
During her lifetime of achievement, Frances did it “my way”, but her greatest moment came at the last week of her life when Frances accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior and entered eternity as a child of God.
Rick and Zach would like to thank Dr. Matt Raines, medical staff of UAB Hospital, and Oasis Hospice, for their diligent care of their loved one. But most of all, thank their Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to your favorite charity.
The family will accept friends from 12:00-2:00 Monday, March 11, 2013, prior to the service.
