Tom was born in Gadsden in 1940 where he resided his entire life. He served 4 years in the U.S. Coast Guard, and was a self-employed piano technician for 56 years serving northeast Alabama. He co-owned and operated Sommers Music Company in Albertville and Rainsville until 1986. As a teenager, he was Baptized at College Heights Baptist Church. He moved his letter in 1969 to East Gadsden Baptist Church where he served as a bus captain in the children's bus ministry, and remained an active member until his death. He had been a resident of the Tidmore Bend area since 1985 and loved life on the Coosa River. Tom enjoyed hunting, fishing, and making people laugh.
