George Boyd Thornton

Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, June 4, 2014 at Collier-Butler Chapel for George Boyd Thornton, 70 of Gadsden, who passed away Sunday, June 1, 2014. Chaplin Chuck Decker will officiate. Burial will be at Crestwood Cemetery. Collier-Butler Funeral and Cremation Services is directing.

Mr. Thornton was an ordained minister and a member of Stowers Hill Baptist Church. He was a 1964 graduate of Emma Sansom High School and had an Associate’s Degree in Science and Applied Science from Gadsden State Community College.

He was preceded in death by his parents Troy B. and Mary Ellen Thornton.

He is survived by his sister, Diane Brown of Boaz; nieces, Suzanne (Chuck) Decker, and Sherrie Ingram; great-nieces, Allison (Nick), Emma (Dalton), Rachel, Danielle, and Lessie; great-nephew, Nathaniel; and great-great-nieces and nephews, Raylend, Hayden, and Carter.

Pallbearers will be Chuck Decker, Dalton Goodwin, Nathaniel Ingram, Dr. Phillip Mangina, B.J. Barron, Charles Williamson and Herbert Rothrock.

Honorary pallbearers will be Rev. Danny Freeman and member of Stowers Hill Baptist Church.

The family will accept friends Tuesday, June 3, 2014 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
