

Graveside services will be 12:30 p.m. Thursday, November 17, 2016 at Forrest Cemetery for Harold W. Henson, age 81, of Gadsden, who passed away Monday, November 14, 2016. Blake and Erin Gilchrist will officiate. Collier-Butler Funeral and Cremation Services is directing.
Harold had an avid love for cars. A dirt-track racing legend from the 60’s on into the 80’s, Henson broke multiple records and won dozens of races across the southeast. His love for cars continued after racing, as he spent his career restoring antique cars as well as owning multiple auto-lots.
He was preceded in death by his son, Kevin Henson; grandson, Landon Henson; parents, James and Alma Henson; sisters, Mary Jennings and Lois Vaughn; brothers, George and Robert Henson.
Mr. Henson is survived by his wife of 63 years, Shirley Henson; daughters, Kathy Lacy, Kristi (Shane) Chappell; daughter-in-law, Jan Henson; grandchildren, Leslie (Chris) Lipscomb, Blake (Erin) Gilchrist, Chad Gilchrist, Dalyn and Devin Chappell; great-grandchildren, Brady Henson, Landri and Kinley Lipscomb, and Mave Henson Gilchrist; brother, Charles (Frances) Henson; and several nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Blake Gilchrist, Chad Gilchrist, Dalyn Chappell, Devin Chappell, Mark Astin, and Winston Henson.
Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to the Etowah County Humane Society.
The family will receive friends from 10:30 a.m.-12:00 p.m. prior to the service.
