Helen Anita Hill, age 90, of Rainbow City, passed away on Thursday, August 22, 2024, on what would’ve been her husband Eddie’s 96th birthday. No doubt he was awaiting her arrival. Services will be held Saturday, August 24, 2024, at Collier-Butler Funeral Home. Family visitation will be held at 12:30. The family will receive friends from 1:00-2:00, with the funeral to follow at 2:00. Burial will take place at Hopewell Cemetery. No graveside services will be held.
Anita was born on May 22, 1934, to Louise Merchant Peterson and Oliver Samuel Peterson in the Riddles Bend community. She married her husband, Eddie, on September 3, 1949. She prided herself on being active and spent most of her life working, from Elgin, ID Precision, and General Times in her early years to Coosa Valley Bank/SouthTrust Bank where she first retired. After her initial retirement to care for her mother, she went back to work at Rehab Partners where she enjoyed several of her later years. She enjoyed anything outside, including gardening, taking care of their land, and watching the hummingbirds from her back patio. She had an affection for animals, especially her baby Dottie, and loved seeing the deer and turkey in her fields. Anita had a special affinity for Coca-Cola, and she enjoyed one every day of her adult life. She had an impressive collection of shoes, and always loved a good shopping trip. Anita was a fierce protector of those she loved, and she made sure you knew if you were one of them. Although she never had any children of her own, she was like a mother to many. Anita was a member of Coosa Valley Baptist Church, and previously a member at Hopewell Baptist Church and Riddles Bend Baptist Church. She set a wonderful example for her family of hard work, loyalty, and dedication.
Anita was preceded in death by her husband of 74 years Eddie; sister Nell; brother Thomas Peterson and wife Juanita; brother Jack Peterson and wife Rhena; and sister in law, Janice Peterson.
Anita is survived by her brother Ray Peterson; beloved companion Dottie; numerous nieces, nephews, and family.
Pallbearers will be Brian Peterson, Colton Peterson, Galen Hill, Carey Hill, Rick Wheeler, Kyle Minyard, Scott Barksdale, and Jeremy Johnson.
In lieu of flowers, Anita requested that donations be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital.
