

Mr. James S. (Jimmie) Johnson, 81, passed peacefully to his eternal home early Wednesday morning surrounded by his loving family. Funeral services will be Saturday, February 26, 2011, at Collier-Butler Funeral Home. Visitation will be from ll:00 a.m. until time for the service at 2:00 p.m. Burial will be at Crestwood Cemetery. Jimmy Simmons and Jim Smith will officiate the service.
Mr. Johnson was born May 15, 1929. He was preceded in death by his father, Earl Johnson and mother Nellie Houze and step-father Horace Houze.
Currently he was the owner of Johnson Pool Supply in Glencoe. In 1962 he was one of the founders of midget football, coaching at East Gadsden and Glencoe for a total of 15 years. He also coached Glencoe Junior High School basketball. He had a great and lasting influence on countless young men. He graduated from Gadsden High School, class of 1949. He attended Freed-Hardeman University. He was retired from Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company with 35 years of service. He served on the Glencoe City Council. He was a long time member of the Glencoe Church of Christ where he taught Sunday School and also served as a deacon and elder.
He is survived by his high-school sweetheart Martha “Dotta” Reeves whom he wed on June 2, 1951. Other survivors include his sons Jim Jr “Jet”, Kerry Lee (Debbie Smith), Kyle (Dana), and daughter Karla Santiago; grandchildren Jamie Little, Sherri (Craig) Womack, Dustin, Eric (Shea), Evan, Rachel, Nathan, and Heather Johnson; 6 great grandchildren; brother, Earl S. "Smitty" (Virginia) Johnson; one brother-in-law Jerry Reeves; two sisters-in-law Marilyn Gentry and Sherry Cardwell.
Pallbearers will be Jimmy Abernathy, Jerry Marker, Bobby Lasseter, Craig Womack, Dustin, Eric, Evan, and Nathan Johnson. Honorary pallbearers will be Jerry Reeves, Billy Towe, Dr Joe Ford who took wonderful care of his “babies” - Easy and Angel, Amedisys Hospice, Drs. Fernandez, Corley, McGwier, Elders and Deacons of the Glencoe Church of Christ.
Jimmie was an avid fan of Alabama Football.
