

Memorial service will be held 12:00 pm Saturday, October 29, 2016 at Collier-Butler Chapel for James Melton “Sam” Nelms, 83, who passed away Sunday, October 23, 2016Rev. L. Dale Butler will officiate. Collier-Butler Funeral and Cremation Services directing.
Sam was born in Attalla. He served during the Korean War as a member of the United States Air Force. After his 1952-1956 military service, he lived in Florida until 2005, when he returned to Alabama and spent his remaining years in Gadsden and Hokes Bluff.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, John Nelms and Lula Samantha Busby Nelms, Marion M. Rosson and Bessie Pearl Jones Rosson; parents, Roy Melton Nems and Emmer M. Rosson Nelms; sisters, Mary Elizabeth Nelms Eller and Helen Louise “Judy” Nelms Roden; nephew Morris Edwin Eller; first wife, Doris Haviser Nelms; and second wife, Angelina Chicherchia Nelms.
Sam is survived by his step-son, Paul C. (Melanie) Camara; granddaughter, Danika; brother, John Robert (Thresa) Nelms; sisters, Beatrice Nelms Dunham and Dorothy Sue Nelms (Luis) Ramos; nephews, David Roden and Johnny Nelms; nieces, Kathy Eller Price, Angela Nelms , Jenny Nelms, Trussie (Chris) Rampley, Pamela (Dwight) Mosley, and Linda Sue (Robyn) Dunham; five grandnephews; four grandnieces; one great-grandnephew; and two great-grandnieces.
The family wishes to thank Northside Healthcare, Riverview ER, Amedisys Hospice and Home Health, and Gadsden Regional Home Health for their invaluable assistance during Sam’s final years.
Sam’s siblings’ request, in lieu of flowers, memorials be made to your favorite charity.
The family will receive friends from 11:00 am -12:00-pm prior to the service.
