John H. Bates

Funeral Service will be at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday at Collier-Butler Chapel for John H. Bates, 66 of Steele, who passed away Saturday, July 9, 2016. Rev. Glenn Pender will officiate. Burial will be at Shiloh Cemetery. Collier-Butler Funeral and Cremation Services will direct.

John’s favorite past time was riding his motorcycle and spending time with his grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Beatrice Bates; sisters, Joyce Janet Bates Tafoya and Martha Ann Bates Battles; brothers, Norman Wesley Bates, Walter Douglas Bates and Charles Richard Bates.

Survivors include his wife, Sharon Boggs Bates; children, John (Tiffany) Bates, Oregan; Joel (Elizabeth) Bates, California; and Jason Bates, Steele; Jason Sherrell, Steele; Justin Worthington, Steele and Mariah Worthington, Steele ; grandchildren, Joey, Jaiden, August, Ezra, Jossyln, Drake, Hagan, Ryleigh, Kaitlyn, Tucker and Dallas; sister, Sylvia Bates Cunningham, Steele and brother, Herbert Reese Bates, Birmingham, several nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be family and friends.

The family would like to extend special thanks to the Doctors, Nurses and Staff of MICU and PCCU at UAB Hospital and Alacare Hospice for their excellent care.

The family will receive friends from 12 pm until the hour of service Wednesday at the funeral home.
