Joy Kennedy Towns

Funeral Service will be at 2:00 p.m, Wednesday, December 27, 2017 at Collier-Butler Chapel for Joy Towns, 91 of Gadsden who passed away Saturday, December 23, 2017. Rev. Sherri Reynolds will officiate with burial at Williams-Southside Memorial Park. Collier-Butler Funeral and Cremation Services will direct.

Mrs. Towns was a longtime member of Christ Central United Methodist Church where she was active in various clubs and activities. She retired as secretary from the Gadsden City Board of Education spending much of career at General Forrest Middle School and Striplin Elementary School. She was always willing to lend a helping hand.

Mrs. Towns was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, Sam Towns; parents, Ernst and Elizabeth Johnson; sisters, Wilma (Silas) Lacy and Mildred (J.C.) Woods.

Survivors include her daughters, Kathy Towns and Dee Dee Carroll; grandson, Nickolas Carroll and Fiance’ Savannah Riddlespur; numerous nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be Garry Ray, John Woods, Carey Ray, Devan Ray, Howard Carroll and Mitch Gargus.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Christ Central United Methodist Church Building Fund.

The family would like to extends special thanks to Dell Jackson; Cathy Grogan; Home Instead; Hollen Freeman; Kathy Sheffield; Carrie Gallagher and Savannah and Robin with Kindred Hospice.

Visitation will be Wednesday from 12:00 p.m. until the hour of service at the funeral home.
