

Services for Judith Elaine Bishop Sexton will be Wednesday, September 25, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. at Collier-Butler Chapel. Father Gray Bean of St. James Catholic Church will officiate with burial to follow at Crestwood Memorial Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5-8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Collier-Butler Funeral and Cremation Services directing.
Judy was born on July 8, 1939 and passed away on September 22, 2013 after an extended illness. Judy was born at the Holy Name of Jesus Hospital in Gadsden, AL. She graduated from Gadsden High School in 1957. Upon graduation, she began working at The Holy Name of Jesus Hospital where she earned her RN. She later earned a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Saint Joseph College. While at the Holy Name of Jesus Hospital, Judy held various positions, but was the long-time Director of Nursing until her retirement in 1991. Judy was a member of the Rho Nu Sigma Sorority and Saint James Catholic Church. As a youngster, she was a member of the Rainbow Girls Alabama City Chapter and later the Eastern Star Alabama City Chapter.
Judy loved to travel with her husband and family. She is best known as the “travel
director” spilling out well known facts about each place they visited. She loved life and
cared for many others during her years as a nurse. She had an infectious laugh and a
crooked smile that will never be forgotten by those who knew her. During her life, Judy participated in the Joslin Diabetes Center 50 Year Medalist Study for persons with Type 1 Diabetes. Her participation in this study was instrumental in helping the Joslin Clinic researchers learn more about Type 1 Diabetes.
She is preceded in death by her parents Omery Talmadge and Berta Cle Bishop of
Gadsden.
Survivors include her husband of 53 years, Kenneth E. Sexton; son, K. Edward
(Susan) Sexton II; sister, Rebecca Lamberth Keown; very special neice/daughter, Lesli
(Rick) Lamberth Bishop; grandchildren, K. E. “Trace” Sexton, III, Kristopher Sexton,
Alexandra Sexton, Elizabeth Sexton and Christian Gulledge; great niece and nephew,
Laney and Colby Bishop. Friend and long-time caregiver Margaret “Pug” Morton,
Special friends Beverly Hill, Ginger Woodard, Sherri Hill, Linda Bryant, Gail Roper,
Betty Jackson, and Georgia Thompson; and friends from Pierson and Kilpatrick Chevrolet.
Pallbearers will be Scott Ford, Victor Giamulva, Rick Bishop and Albert Speigner, Jr.
Honorary pallbearers are Dr. AE Ennis, Dr. Michael Rowland, Dr. J. David Davidson,
Dr. Jason Ayres, Dr. G. Patel and Dr. Alberto Echeverri.
