

Funeral services for Laura Herring Allen will be Wednesday, April 13, 2022 at Collier- Butler Funeral Chapel in Gadsden, Alabama at 2:00 pm. The Reverend Darrell Brown will officiate. There will be a visitation for family and friends starting at 1:00 pm. Laura was born on September 22, 1944 in Etowah County, Alabama. She graduated from Gadsden High in 1962. She attended Jacksonville State University where she met her husband of 58 years, Randy. She graduated from Jacksonville State University with a degree in Education.
Laura and Randy settled in Mableton, Georgia in 1972 where they raised their 3 children, Jeff, Jay and Julie. Laura was highly involved in public education where she was a high school teacher and coach at Pebblebrook High School for many years. She was a member of Glen Forest Baptist Church and Mt. Harmony Baptist Church. Laura was an avid sports fan. Whether it was actively participating, coaching, or as a spectator, you could always find her in a gym or at a ball field.
Laura was preceded in death by her parents, Julius and Fannie Herring and her husband, Randy. Laura is survived by 3 siblings, Julia (Phillip) Guinn, Cary (Carol) Herring and David (Janet) Herring and children Jeff (Sherye) Allen, Jay (Amy) Allen and Julie (Patrick)Brown. Laura’s sparkle remains present in her 6 grandchildren, Austin, Ali, Rebecca, Abby, Taylor and Bo as well as 3 great grandchildren Isaac, Maddox and Walker. Her devotion throughout her life was to her family. God blessed her with the ability to always be present during the greatest times of need. Laura will always be remembered for the love that she gave to everyone.
The family would like to offer a special heartfelt thanks to the Cardiac ICU team at Piedmont Hospital in Atlanta for the excellent care that she received. An additional thank you goes to Dr. Lyn Lowman of Oconee Heart and Vascular for his unrelenting care during her time of need. In lieu of flowers the family has requested donations to be made to Calvary Baptist Church in East Gadsden.
