

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 12, 2014, at Collier-Butler Chapel for Leonard DeWitt Lasseter, 86, of Gadsden, who passed away Thursday, Jan. 9, 2014. The Rev. Jack Campbell, the Rev. DeWayne Lasseter and the Rev. Bobby Hooper will officiate. Burial will be at Crestwood Cemetery. Collier-Butler Funeral and Cremation Services is directing.
Mr. Lasseter retired from Republic Steel with 42 years of service. He then went to work with his grandsons, Eric and Chris at Richards Motors. He worked with them for 22 years. He was a faithful member of Macedonia Baptist Church, of Coates Bend, where he served as a deacon.
Mr. Lasseter was preceded in death by his parents, Newt "N.K." and Della Harden Lasseter; brothers, J.W. Lasseter and Grant Lasseter; sister, Beatrice Lasseter Hooper; and nephews, Ronnie Lasseter and Donnie Lasseter.
He is survived by his loving wife of 67 years, Betty Hanks Lasseter; daughters, Myra (G.W.) Campbell, of Gadsden, Ala., Marilyn (Frank) Wolfe, of Springville, Ala., and Carolyn Dean, of Kimberly, Ala.; grandsons, Eric (Kelly) Richards, Chris Richards, Jason (Brandie) Wolfe, Jeff (Charlotte) Wolfe and Matthew (Katie) Dean; granddaughters, Tammy (Bradley) Arnold and Haley (Steven) Brown; great-grandsons, John Eric Richards, Chandler Richards, Alex Arnold, Jack Wolfe, Parker Wolfe, Sam Wolfe and Tyler Brown; great-granddaughters, Destiny Richards and her fiancé, Taylor Preston, Chasity Richards, Campbell Burford, Anna Beth Arnold, Sally Wolfe and Ella Kate Dean; nephews, DeWayne (Janice) Lasseter, Jerry Lasseter, Kent (Anne) Lasseter, Mike (Cecila) Lasseter and Bobby (Faye) Hooper; nieces, Jane Lasseter (Ted) Jones and Martha Dell Lasseter; sisters-in-law, Frances (Charles) Henson, Judy Strawn, Marilyn Sue (Steve) Yarbrough, Wanda (Dennis) Simmons and Marie Cook.
The family would like to express their sincere thanks to the Gadsden Healthcare family for treating our father and grandfather like family; to the many friends and family who came by to visit with him and help him pass the days; to Alacare Hospice for their love and support in these last days; to special neighbor, Jean Patterson; to Sue and Steve Yarbrough, who have helped us so much to take care of daddy and mama, we could not have gotten through it without you.
Pallbearers will be grandsons and great-grandsons.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Macedonia Baptist Church.
The family will accept friends from noon to 2 p.m. at the funeral home Sunday prior to the service.
