

Michael Chriss Elkins, age 57, stepped from this life and into the presence of Jesus on Monday, January 6, 2014. Funeral services will be at 12:30 p.m. Friday, January 10, 2014 at Collier-Butler Chapel. He will lie in state 1 hour prior to the service. Rev. George Adams and Rev. George Wyrosdick will officiate. Burial will be at Rainbow Memorial Gardens. Collier-Butler Funeral and Cremation Services is directing.
Michael was born in Gadsden, AL on October 7, 1956.He was a member of Crosspoint Community Church and was employed with Honda Manufacturing of Alabama, as a quality associate in the engine division. He was a 1975 graduate of Emma Sansom High School. Mike was known as a great big guy with a great big heart. He was devoted, caring, loving, kind, humble and always had a smile on his face. He treasured his wife and daughter, as well as his family and friends, and all those that knew Mike loved and treasured him as well. He loved the outdoors, and was an avid fisherman and craftsman. Those who worked with him were thankful he was on their team. His wife was the love of his life. Family, faith, and friendship were at the top of his list. His personality, character, and friendly disposition made Mike such a genuine and lovable person. He will be greatly missed by all that loved him and counted his as family or friend.
He was preceded in death by his parents, James Oliver and Mildred Ann Elkins; and brother Johnny Elkins.
Michael is survived by his wife, Teresa Elkins; daughter, Michelle (Jason) Thomason; brother, Danny (Theresa) Elkins; mother-in-law, Margaret Kimbril; brothers-in-law, Alan (Kathy) Kimbril, and Donnie (Shirley) Kimbril; uncles, Robert Elkins, and Junior (Faye) Helms; aunts, Mary (Bo) Tiller, and Jean Elkins; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Pallbearers will be: Matt Kimbril, Cody Kimbril, Tim Helms, Rick Kemp, Dennis Elkins, Brian Elkins, Bill Monk, Loyd Fleming, Josh Elkins, Zack Elkins, Rodney McCoy, Jeff Campbell, and Blair Baker.
Honorary pallbearers will be the employees in the engine department at Honda Manufacturing. Special thanks to Scott Smith of Honda and Rev. Randy Howell of St. Vincent’s, for holding Teresa’s hand until family arrived.
Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to West End Baptist Church, 312 Henderson St., Gadsden, AL 35904, or your favorite charity.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, January 9, 2014 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at the funeral home, with family starting at 5:00 p.m.
