

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 7, 2011 at Trinity Lutheran Church for Mr. Richard James Jermyn, Jr., age 89, of Gadsden, who passed away Saturday, April 2, 2011. The Reverend Pomeroy J. Moore will officiate followed by burial at Forrest Cemetery. Mr. Jermyn will lie in state at the church one hour prior to the service. Collier-Butler Funeral and Cremation Services directing.
Mr. Jermyn was born on August 1, 1921 in Beaver Meadows, Pennsylvania. He was a Veteran of WWII, having served in the U.S. Army as Staff Sergeant in Military Intelligence. Mr. Jermyn retired from the U.S. Postal Service after more than 30 years of service. He was a long time member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Gadsden.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Richard James Jermyn, Sr. and Olive Kisthardt Jermyn.
He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Claudia Wyatt Jermyn; daughters, Laura (Rex) Snyder of Birmingham and Leah (Mike) King of Westfield, New Jersey; grandchildren, Will, Elizabeth and Mary Snyder and Caroline and Catherine King. He is also survived by his siblings, Elizabeth Rossi of Portland, Oregon, William Jermyn of Somerville, New Jersey and Lysod Kunkel of Bridgewater, New Jersey.
Pallbearers will be Charles Copeland, Harold Cornutt, James Saye, William Snyder, David Tumlin and Bill Whisenant.
Honorary pallbearers will be Julia Richardson, Dr. and Mrs. William Simpson and Dr. John Wilborn.
The family would like to express special gratitude to the dedicated staff of Gadsden Health and Rehab Center and The Bill Nichols State Veterans Home.
In lieu of flowers, memorials in Mr. Jermyn’s honor may be made to Trinity Lutheran Church, 1885 Rainbow Drive, Gadsden, AL 35901 or The National Parkinson Foundation, P.O. Box 5018, Hagerstown, MD 21741-5018.
Visitation will be held Wednesday evening from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Collier-Butler Funeral Home.
