Robert Earl Stephens, 69, of Gadsden passed away Sunday, June 3, 2018. A special memorial service will be at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, June 6, 2018 at East Gadsden Baptist Church in the Cross Point Activity Center with a time of fellowship following the service. Rev. John Dickinson will officiate.

Robert was born October 9, 1948 and grew up in Etowah County. He graduated from Emma Sansom High School in 1968 and worked for Trophy Dairy 25 years.
He was the owner of Alabama Vinyl Siding from the late 80’s to present time. Robert was a hard worker and enjoyed what he did and he always made sure everyone was happy with his work.
Robert loved children and traveled with his wife Carol for her work and met many children. Better known with the kids as “The Bug Man”, he worked with children all his life and coached baseball in the early 80’s for Vulcan Materials. He was president of Joe Hamby Field and coached for the Walnut Park Bears.
Robert was an avid Auburn Tiger Fan and if you saw him he always had a big War Eagle for you. He was always playing jokes on people and he was voted most silliest in high school.
He was preceded in death by his father, Charlie Stephens; mother, Marie Davis; special nephew, Leslie Buster East; mother-in-law, Gloria Kathryn Burns; brothers, Bobby Stephens; Burt Stephens and Charlie Stephens; sister Margaret (Drew) Barfield and other extended family.
Survivors include his wife, Carol Thrasher Stephens; children, Kevin (Annette) Stephens; Shanna (Jason) Clifton; Emily (Derek) Morgan; Steve Higdon; Linda George; Laura (Patrick) Paige and Cassie Thrasher; 9 grandchildren; 3 great grandchildren; sisters, Janice (Mike) East; Charlotte (Harold) Epperson; brothers, Jeff Davis and Eddie (Amy) Davis; father-in-law, Alex W. Burns and special friend, Stanley Jones.
The family extends special thanks to Amedysis Hospice, Luke, Kim, Jay and especially our sweet girl Kayla.
