
Scott was born December 17, 1963 in Fulda, MN to the late Vincent Kellen and the late June Kellen (Miller) of Tucson Az.. He graduated from the University of Arizona in 1986 with a degree in Finance. He was named the Navy Reserve Officer Training Corp (NROTC) Distinguished Naval Graduate and was commissioned as a Naval Officer in May 1986. Scott spent 22 years in the United States Navy, first as an active duty Supply Officer, and then a reserve officer, retiring with the rank of Commander.
Scott married Kelli Kellen (Reilly) of Orland Park, IL in 1986 at St John Fisher Church in Chicago. Immediately after the wedding, they moved to Newport, Rhode Island where Scott attended Navy Surface Warfare School and Damage Control "A" school. Scott was a dedicated, supportive husband to Kelli for 38 wonderful years, and an amazing and loving father to his two children, Steffen Kellen of Huntsville, AL, and Kelsie Kellen of Gadsden, AL. Over the course of their marriage, Scott, Kelli, and their children moved 21 times and lived in 11 different states. They enjoyed seeing the country and meeting new friends at each duty station, many of who became friends for life.
After retiring from the Navy, Scott continued service to his company as a Federal Employee of the Defense Logistics Agency. Scott and Kelli moved full time to their cabin in the Blue Ridge Mountains outside of Lexington, Virginia when Scott retired from his role at DLA. Scott spent his retirement talking long walks with Harper, his beloved pit bull, growing hops, brewing beer, and collecting whiskey. He and Kelli started a consulting business, Kellen Consulting Group, and a Leadership Coaching Business, KCG TALOS, supporting entrepreneurs, businesses, non -profits, and government emerging leaders. In their spare time, Scott and Kelli spent time traveling both domestically and internationally, enjoying many food and wine tours with both family and new friends they met on their travels. Scott and Kelli moved to Gadsden, AL in October of 2023 to be closer to specialized medical care at the University of Alabama in Birmingham.
Scott is survived by his brother Joel Kellen and sister-in law, Jen, of Iona, MN, his sister-in-law, Terri Kellen, of Phoenix, AZ, his brothers and sisters-in-law Sean and Aishling Reilly of Chicago, IL, Dan and Dena Reilly of Oak Lawn, IL, two nephews, and three nieces.
Scott was preceded in death by his brother Terry Kellen of Phoenix, AZ, his parents Vincent and June Kellen of Tucson, AZ his paternal grandparents Jen and Joe Kellen of Fairmont, MN, his maternal grandparents Ken and Norma Miller of Fulda, MN, and brother-in-law Kevin Reilly of Chicago, IL.
A Funeral Mass will be held at 10am on Saturday, March 15th at St John Fisher Church in Chicago, IL. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Disabled Athletes Sports Association in St Louis, MO. All donations noted that they are in memory of Scott Kellen will provide scholarships for training and events for disabled military veterans.
