
Chapel funeral service for Mr. Walton Lamar Thomas,89, Glencoe, will be 11 AM, Saturday, September 17, 2011 at Collier- Butler Funeral Home. Mr. Thomas passed away, September 14, 2011 after an extended illness. Pastor Robert Edwards will officiate.
Walton Lamar Thomas was born in Calhoun County, Al. and graduated from Alexandria High School. During WWII he served three years in the U.S. Coast Guard. He resumed his education at Auburn University where he was a member of Delta Sigma Phi Fraternity. After graduating from Auburn in 1948 with a B.S. degree in Business Administration, Walt distinguished himself as Personnel Manager at General Electric, Sperry Rand, and Ampex. Walt was a member of Rainbow City First Baptist Church. Walt was preceded in death by his father John Walker Thomas, mother Susie Mintz Thomas , and wife, Mary Heath Thomas.
Walt is survived by his wife, Betty Roberson Thomas, step-sons Bruce W. Moon (Marian) and John M. Moon (Delores) and sister, Frances McCullars. Wife's children: Denise Bryant (Stephen) J.Vance (Remona), John H.(Martha) and Marsha Tucker(Eric). Grandchildren: Chris and C.W. Moon, Nathan, Heather, Cherie, Candace Bryant, Claire, Jack, and Natalie Roberson, John A., SarahBeth, and William Roberson, and Michael and Katherine Tucker
Pallbearers will be grandsons, Chris, C.W., Nathan, John A., Michael, Jack, and William. Honorary Pallbearers will be Helping Hands, Rainbow City FBC Men's Sunday School Class and Rick Sommers. Special thank you to Nathan Bryant and Patsy Stephens.
The family will accept friends from 10 until 11 AM on Saturday at the funeral home.
