In his younger years, he was known for his strong personality, quick wit, and sharp sense of humor. Later in life, as his health declined, he became a bit more set in his ways—but remained unmistakably himself.
A true jack of all trades, Al could fix just about anything and was always willing to lend a hand when it was needed. He took pride in being capable and dependable. He enjoyed music, especially Pink Floyd, and had a special place in his heart for his cats.
Al was preceded in death by his parents, Russell and Annabelle Baumberger.
He is survived by his children, Angie (Ron) Herron and Brian Baumberger; as well as his former wife (x2), Kathy (Joe) Bernicken; brothers and sisters, Jim (Julie) Baumberger, Tom (Sylvia) Baumberger, Debbie (Greg) Cilles and Cindy (Donn) Stock; grandchildren, Jory (Kaylee) Schmidt, Jacob Herron, Ana Baumberger; great grandchild, Penelope Schmidt.
Family and friends may gather to honor Al’s life on Saturday, March 28, 2026, at Schoedinger Northeast Funeral Home, 1051 E Johnstown Rd, Gahanna OH. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM, with visitation to follow until 2:00 PM.
