Born in Buffalo, New York, Carl was the beloved son of the late Salvatore and Pauline Zarcone. He lived a life marked by devotion to family, tireless work ethic, and generous service to others. Carl proudly served in the United States Army during the Korean War, a chapter of his life that reflected his deep sense of duty and patriotism.
He began his career in 1958 with The S&M Flickinger Company in Buffalo as a part-time truck driver and retired in 1983 as Executive Superintendent of Warehouse Operations in Columbus, Ohio.
Carl was a passionate coach, dedicating over a decade to Little League football, baseball, and basketball in Buffalo and Gahanna, where he made a lasting impact on countless young athletes. In 1983, he founded Zarcone’s Pizza, opening four locations in Columbus. Through his business, Carl became a pillar of generosity—never turning away someone in need and consistently supporting charitable causes and community events.
He was actively involved in the Saint Johns Italian Festival for many years and was instrumental in launching the Saint Matthew Festival, where he introduced the beloved Monte Carlo room to help raise funds for the Parish.
Carl also served as President of the Half Moon Bay condominium development in South Florida for many years, where he played a key role in the construction of Bocce Ball courts and the organization of numerous social activities. He especially enjoyed playing cards with his buddies at the clubhouse, where friendship and spirited conversation were always in abundance. He also started and ran the beloved Italian Night at Halfmoon Bay—where, of course, he was proudly in charge of the food, sharing his love of Italian cuisine with neighbors and friends.
A devoted sports fan, Carl never missed a Columbus Blue Jackets hockey game—whether on television or radio. His enthusiasm for the team was unwavering and brought him great joy throughout the seasons.
Carl found his greatest happiness in spending time with his family. He loved fishing, golfing, and boating with his children and grandchildren, creating cherished memories on the water and at the course. He took immense pride in watching his grandchildren play sports, cheer, and perform in dance recitals—always their biggest fan. Carl’s whole life was his family, and above all, he was a great provider. His love, strength, and dedication were the foundation of his home, and his legacy lives on in the lives he nurtured and supported.
Carl is survived by his devoted wife of 65 years Marilyn; sons Carl (Marlen), Mark (Joyce), and Stephen (Kattia); grandchildren Anthony (Ali), Andrea (Jason) Murnen, Lauren, Rosemarie, and Sophia; great-grandchildren Bostyn, Korbyn, and Tatum; and his brother Gerald.
He was preceded in death by his grandson Michael and his sisters Donna and Carolyn.
Carl will be remembered for his unwavering kindness, community leadership, and the joy he brought to all who knew him. His legacy lives on in the lives he touched and the traditions he helped build.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the caretakers and nurses who lovingly cared for Carl over the past two years. Their compassion and dedication brought great comfort during a difficult time.
