Carolyn Sue McGuire, 77, of Lancaster, Ohio, passed away peacefully on May 4, 2025, after a brief and courageous battle with lung cancer. She was surrounded by love in her final moments, with her son Sean Bryan and his husband Nick Bryan by her side.
Born in Lancaster, Ohio, on January 17, 1948, Carolyn was the daughter of the late Robert Max Hedges and Cora Hedges. She graduated from Lancaster High School and spent much of her career working at Radio Shack franchise before continuing her lifelong service to others through Meals on Wheels.
Carolyn had a kind and gentle spirit and was known for her deep love of animals—rescuing countless dogs and cats over the years, lovingly feeding the squirrels in her yard, and nurturing her cherished houseplants. She believed in astrology and angels, found joy in playing cards, and never passed up a good Bon Jovi or Cher song.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her granddaughter Harper Bryan, her cousin Hazel Portnoy, and several beloved cousins and extended family.
Carolyn is survived by her son Sean (Nick) Bryan and her treasured granddaughter Piper Bryan. She is also survived by her sister Patricia New; cousin Sarah Hunt; and nieces and nephews Teresa Craft, Robert New, and Dougie New.
Carolyn brought a sense of optimism, silliness, humor and light to every room. Her legacy of compassion, warmth, and love for both people and animals will live on in the hearts of those who knew her.
A private celebration of life will be held in Columbus at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Carolyn’s memory to two organizations close to her heart:
