Don Miller, 85, passed away peacefully in his home on March 6, 2026, closely following Lorette, his wife of 61 years. He had a sharp mind, an even sharper wit, and remained active and engaged in lives of his family, neighbors, and friends until just weeks before his death.
He was a proud Meigs County River Boy, graduate of Racine High School (Class of 1958), and a machinist from Timken Co, retiring after 40 years and 11 months of service. Don was an “A” student who studied 4 years of Latin, was interested in science, politics, world events, history and geography. He valued education; Don provided the means for all three of his children to continue their education on the income from his factory job.
Don was an was avid outdoorsman who seldom missed an opportunity to take his grandchildren hunting or fishing, an enthusiastic connoisseur of Ohio river tomatoes, a neighborhood icon whose cigar was his constant fashion accessory, and a darn-fine golfer. When asked recently which golf course was his favorite, his answer was, "all of them."
Most importantly, he was the man who gave his family a firm foundation. He provided a remarkable example of the importance of having a strong work ethic, graciously served others, and exemplified being grateful for what you have while finding peace and joy in life's simple pleasures.
Don spent the final years of his life exactly as he wanted; spending as much time as possible outside, making memories with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who adorably know him as "my best friend, Pops," and caring for his wife so she could remain with him in their home as she transitioned through the stages of Alzheimer's.
His children will forever be grateful to have had a man of his integrity as a father.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, March 12, from 2:00pm - 4:00pm at Schoedinger Northeast Funeral Home, 1051 E Johnstown Road, Gahanna, OH 43230, with Don's funeral service beginning at 4:00pm.
Don will be laid to rest beside his beloved wife Lorette at Letart Falls Cemetery on Friday, March 13, at 12:00pm.
