Donald “Don” Wayne Treadway, dearly loved husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather, was born June 4, 1942, in Massillon, Ohio and died April 7, 2023 in Galena, Ohio. These dates encompass a life well lived.
Don was born to Homer and Margarette (Coss) Treadway. He was an Active member of Boy Scouts thru out his childhood and adolescence, graduating from Washington High School in Massillon, Ohio in 1960. He then entered the Navy, serving in Hawaii and as a proud Vietnam War Veteran. After an honorable discharge from the Navy in 1964, he worked for AT&T across the Midwest and southern United States. He also worked for Control Power Corporation until he found his true calling to become a minister. He and the family moved to Memphis, Tennessee, in 1973, so he could attend the Memphis School of Preaching, graduating in 1975. He faithfully served as a minister for the Dunbar Church of Christ (Dunbar, WV), Westside Church of Christ (Fairlawn, OH), the Delaware Church of Christ (Delaware, OH) and retired from full-time ministry after planting and establishing the Gahanna-Jefferson Church of Christ congregation in Gahanna, OH, with support from the Granny White Church of Christ in Nashville, TN. Throughout his 48 years of ministry, Don was overjoyed to lead souls to Christ, counsel and perform the weddings of many couples, mentor young men into ministry, and lead his own family with his faithful life of service.
Don was always interested in education, taking college classes here and there over the years, including at Kent State University and The Ohio State University. He finished his Bachelor of Science degree in 1985, graduating from Ohio Valley University.
Wherever he lived, Don was involved in the community – everything from the PTA at Mound Elementary, disaster relief in various communities, to his longtime involvement with the Right to Life movement in West Virginia and Ohio. He spent over two decades as a camp counselor and Bible teacher at Fort Hill Christian Youth Camp, a place dear to his heart.
Don was a great listener, a thoughtful teacher, a preacher who made the Scriptures come alive, a wise counselor, and the best storyteller.
Our family will miss his devoted love to the love of his life, his wife Sandy, whom he married February 19, 1966. We will also miss his loving support of anything we were called to do and the constant humor and laughter that enveloped our home. He enjoyed being surrounded by family, especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren. Our biannual family vacations, affectionately known as “Treadways’ Traveling Circus,” were highlights of his life as we traveled from Branson, MO, to Massanutten, VA to Disney World and even to the wilds of Kentucky. His passing leaves a huge hole in our family, but we rest in the assurance we will see him again. His faith has become sight, and he no longer has to imagine what it will be like to rejoice with the Lord forever.
Don is survived by his beloved wife of 57 years, Sandy (Seckman) Treadway; his children Don (Teresa) Treadway, Jana Treadway, Jessica (Richard) Dillon, and Matt (Janet) Treadway. Beloved grandchildren Brad (Christy)Treadway, Chris (Elizabeth Beiter)Treadway, Carly Treadway, Elijah Dillon, Ally (Josh) Smith, Jessica (Juozas) Sodys, Rebekah (Daniel) Kovacs, and Jackie Treadway.
