A long-time resident of New Albany, Ohio, she graduated from Linden McKinley High School in 1949. She earned her Bachelors in Elementary Education from Otterbein University in 1953. Valuing her education at Otterbein University, she created and funded a scholarship for undergraduates majoring in education with a focus on grades K-4.
She taught kindergarten at Shady Lane Elementary in Columbus city for over 40 years, retiring from teaching in 1992. A lifelong teacher, she continued educating well into her 90’s.

During that time, she was awarded the Lions Club “Melvin Jones” Fellow 16 times and was “Lion of the Year” twice. ElDoris was a member of the Stonybrook Church of Gahanna’s choir, Columbus Education Association of Retired Teachers, and the Order of the Eastern Star.
At Wesley Woods, she took pride in displaying pictures, articles and mementos from her worldly travels to the other residents. A passionate traveler, she traveled to all 7 continents, including once to Antarctica with Jack Hanna and the Columbus Zoo & Aquarium. Her favorite destinations included Australia, Antarctica, Alaska and Oberammergau, Germany.

Though ElDoris is no longer with us, we take comfort in knowing she is at peace, and we will all meet again someday.
