Born on June 18, 1932, to Effie and Lot Spight in Forrest City, Arkansas, Geneva graduated from Forrest City Lincoln High School in 1951. She married her love, Woody Wofford, on July 21, 1952, and together they sought new adventures by moving north to Toledo, Ohio, in 1952.
True to her roots, Geneva would return to her hometown of Forrest City to give birth to her first four children, ensuring they were born where she was. However, during her last pregnancy in 1965, she remained in Toledo for the birth of her fifth child.
Throughout her children’s elementary school years, Geneva was an active member of the Parent Teacher’s Association (PTA) and served as a Cub Scout Den Mother. In her role as a den mother, she ensured all in her den had uniforms and plenty of snacks after each meeting. Geneva also enjoyed cooking, creating crafts, and cake decorating.
Known for her captivating personality and her heart of gold, Geneva was a friend to all and found great pleasure in helping others. Her unwavering passion for uplifting and inspiring those around her left a lasting impact on many lives.
Geneva worked for the Toledo Public School system for 40 years as a teacher’s aide, retiring in 2008. She leaves behind a legacy of dedication and service.
