He was a husband to Marilyn Block for 56 years, before her passing in 2011. He is survived by his four children, Terry Block, Linda Eyres, Raelyn Kahl, and Robert Block. He was also a wonderful grandfather to 9, a great grandpa to 16, and even made it to great great granddad to 1.
Dad served as a Marine from 1954 to 1968, when he was honorably discharged with the rank of sergeant. Thereafter, he worked for the Montebello School District for over 30 years, where he fixed all the school machines, until his retirement at 65. He was also a talented craftsman. He and mom went on to make and sell the crafts that they created. He would cut all of the wood designs, and mom would paint all of the designs. They would travel together to craft shows, where they would sell their work.
Dad’s heart was a heart of gold. He was there for all of his kids growing up. He taught us all to be independent, and he even taught me how to do the same things that he taught my brothers how to do. I learned how to change a tire, check my oil and fill it, how to use power tools, and how to build things. He taught all of us how to play sports, and growing up, that we all did! He would run around like a wild man, trying not to miss a game, which was definitely hard with 4 kids all playing sports at the same time.
I remember when I was about 7 years old, he started us kids bowling. We all loved it! As we got older, we started in adult leagues and formed a team of our own, made up of my dad, me, and my brothers. These are times that I will always cherish. The laughs, the jokes, the family get togethers, the parties, dad was always there. School events, life events, dad was there. When his grandkids started coming, wow, the love you could see in his eyes for them. It was the same love that he showed his own kids, the only difference was he could spoil his grandkids and then send them back home to us, which he loved doing.
Dad was great at listening and not judging. He could get mad, but he still listened and you always knew that no matter what he still loved you. Mistake or not, he always loved you. Everyone that knew him instantly liked him, he just had that kind of personality.
Dad, you are my hero and always will be. You got me through things that I will always be grateful for.
Now you are at peace, pain free, can walk again, and you can ride Smokey with Suzy in your saddle, ride Cowboy!!!
We love you Dad. Dance and sing with the Angels!!!
