Born in 1961 in Bronx, NY, Jeff was a die-hard Mets fan and a wealth of useless knowledge – not someone you wanted to play trivia with. He lived most of his life in Columbus, OH and, as the oldest sibling and cousin, famously played the part of both agitator and hero.
Proud of his time on the east side and graduating from Independence High School, he also held a bachelor’s in Finance after what we playfully referred to as “the 30yr program” at 5+ universities.
Above all, Jeff lived for his wife and kids. While he may have most recently worked at Battelle, his primary full-time job was his wife. Otherwise blissfully dedicated to the kids’ activities, he never missed an event and coached many of their teams, including sports that he’d never played before.
He was known for his terrible dad jokes and his goofy and sometimes caustic sense of humor.
He loved spending time at the beach and was looking forward to trying surfing again after a recent move to Wilmington, NC. His favorite place on earth was Key West where he could be close to his spirit animal (pelicans) and selfishly reserved the Conch Republic for only himself and his wife. When he couldn’t be there, he found every opportunity to relax in his hammock.
He loved old TV shows, Saturday morning cartoons, and TCM on Sunday mornings. He introduced us all to Jimmy Buffett and also loved Tom Petty, Beastie Boys, Joe Walsh, John Prine, and the Ramones – he was, however, known to leave a room if Journey came on. Jeff always brought a sense of levity and was still ever the adult when other adult shenanigans ensued.
Jeff will be profoundly missed and is survived by his wife Andrea Greenberg, daughter Jenna Greenberg, son Dylan Greenberg, mother Sheila Cizmadia, sister Marsha Underhill (Steve), aunt Mel Pepper (Lisa), uncle Gerry Greenberg (Jie), cousins Meredith Bornstein (Dan), Dan Greenberg (Sarah), Emily Robes (Bob), and Robin Morganstine, brother-in-law Steve Varnado (Alisa), niece Kayla Sing (Andres), nephew CJ Varnado, great niece Natasha Sing, as well as his best friend Phil’s kids, Caitie, Jarrod, and Courtney. He was preceded in death by his dad, Marty Greenberg and his life-long best friend Phil Traylor.
Friends may gather on Monday, August 19, 2024 at Schoedinger Northeast (1051 E Johnstown Rd.) from 3PM-5PM. A Funeral Service to celebrate Jeff's life will immediately follow, beginning at 5PM. Arrangements entrusted to Schoedinger Northeast.
