Born in Sofiko, Greece, John carried the values of his homeland with him throughout his life. As a young man, he answered the call to serve, joining the United Nations forces during the Korean War as a Green Beret. His military service reflected the courage, discipline, and resilience that would come to define his character for the rest of his life.
Following his service, John pursued the promise of opportunity in America, dedicating himself to building the American dream as a proud Greek immigrant. Through hard work, perseverance, and unwavering determination, he created a life centered on family, community, and faith.
John remained deeply connected to Greece throughout his life, returning to his beloved homeland every other year—even traveling at the remarkable age of 94. His pride in his heritage was evident in everything he did, from his traditions and storytelling to his lifelong involvement in the Greek community.
A devoted member of Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church in Columbus, John was also a founding member of the Columbus Greek Festival, helping establish a celebration that brought culture, faith, and community together for generations.
Outside of family, John’s greatest passion was baking. Whether preparing traditional recipes or sharing food with loved ones, he expressed love through his craft, creating memories that will live on around family tables for years to come.
John will be remembered for his quick wit, warm spirit, and deep devotion to those he loved. His greatest pride was his family, whose lives reflect the values he worked so hard to instill.
He was preceded in death by his father, Antonios; his mother, Margarita; his beloved wife, Pauline; his daughter, Marguerite; his son, Theodore; his sisters, Katina, Maria, and Sophia; and his brother, George.
He is survived by his grandson, Gregory (Audrey) and their daughters, Elena, and Georgia; and his granddaughters Sophia, Makayla, and Emilie, along with extended family and friends who will cherish his memory always.
John’s life was a testament to faith, perseverance, and love—a journey from Sofiko to Columbus that embodied sacrifice, tradition, and the enduring strength of family. His legacy will continue through the generations he inspired and the community he helped build.
May his memory be eternal.
