She was preceded in death by her brothers Bobbie, Charlie, and Danny and husbands Francis T. McGonagle and Roger D. Flom.
Mary was a devoted mother, beloved grandmother, and an adoring great-grandmother. She leaves a legacy of love that is captured through her 7 children and their spouses, 20 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren and many many more lives that she touched. Mary was the guiding light of her family and was always good for a nugget of wisdom, a listening ear, a word of encouragement, or a mean game of Rummy. She was a card shark to her core and enjoyed besting her grandkids regularly. No one could resist one of her home cooked meals, her delicious banana bread or annual Christmas cookie baking. She was a fixture at the athletic fields for kids and grandkids which led to the achievement of Tennis Fan of the Year in Worthington. She was a great neighbor and a trusted friend with a keen sense of humor and she was the queen of all of our hearts.
Mary ran for the Columbus Board of Education and advocated for children, education and the independence of women. She was always active in the PTA, organized sewing classes for the neighborhood kids, and ran a student reading center during the energy crisis. She worked as a model, a full-time mother and eventually an inventory control specialist for Emco Maier in Columbus and Shepherd Color in Cincinnati.
She will be greatly missed by her children Robert McGonagle, Susan (Dan) Carter, Cecelia (Steve) Peirano, Brenda (John) Phillips, Andrew (Mary Ann) McGonagle, Rita (Oliver) Britz, and Kate Flom (Mark Weber), grandchildren Shelley McGonagle, Cory (Gwen) Carter, Lauren (Nicholas) Bauman, Lindsey (Evan) Nicol, Kelli (Matt) Sprosty, Stevie (Chris) Adams, Molly Peirano, Casey (Mike) Peirano, Erica (Andrew) Regan , Alex (Scott) Phillips, Carly (Kristina) Phillips, Connor (Jordan) Phillips, Thomas, Colin, and Micah McGonagle, Kai and Erik Britz, Emma, Aidan, and Beck Weber and 15 great-grandchildren.
