Phil proudly served in the United States Air Force and went on to build a successful career in I.T. Systems Architecture. A man of many talents and interests, he enjoyed woodworking, camping, following the Columbus Blue Jackets, tinkering with cars, and tackling home repairs—earning him the affectionate nickname “Mr. Fix-It.” He was a leader in the Boy Scouts of America and coached both softball and baseball.
Phil was an active member of the Central Ohio United Ostomy Association and the Woodworkers of Central Ohio.
He is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Sandy Bertrand (née Duncan); children Tim Bertrand (Rachel), Nicole Alexander (Arick), and Angela Tarr (Dylan); brothers-in-law Tom Duncan (Kim) and Gary Duncan; seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Geraldine and John Bertrand, and his beloved son Andy Bertrand (Laurie).
The family extends heartfelt gratitude to the Central Ohio Hospice Association, the doctors and nurses at the VA in Columbus, Right at Home caregivers, Father Angelo Anthony, and Sophia, Kaitlyn, Meghan, Nimo, Amy, and Ashley for their compassionate support and care.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Central Ohio Parkinson Society or the American Heart Association.
