

Richard M Moniz, 84, of Gahanna, passed away surrounded by his family March 8, 2025. Rich was born in Peekskill, NY. After graduating high school, he served in the United States Air Force from 1960 to 1980. Rich earned several citations including for Small Arms Marksmanship, and Vietnam Service Medal. He earned an associate degree in Business Management from East Texas University.
After the service, Rich’s professional career was varied, including entrepreneurship and millworker operating. He excelled at creating unique pieces of furniture, and his talents were sought after by establishments such as The Greenbriar Resort, and Cameron Mitchell Companies.
He enjoyed golfing, bowling and competing in many pro-am tournaments. He also played professional billiards, fishing, creating unique pieces of furniture working around the house, but most of all spending time with friends and family. Rich was a member of St. Matthew’s Catholic Church where he proudly served as an Usher for 5 years.
Rich was preceded in death by his son Richard Moniz, sisters Dottie Paci and Sarah Watson, brothers Joesph and Eddy Moniz. Those left to cherish Rich’s memory include Irene his wife of 35 years, brother Manny Moniz, children Mark Moniz, Troy (Denna) Moniz, step-children Robert (Janet) Dreiss, Joanne (Stephan) Liu, James Dreiss, Kirk Winters, 22 grandchildren and 53 great grandchildren and a host of family and friends.
On Friday, March 14th a Catholic Mass will be held at 10:00 am at St. Matthew’s Catholic Church. Visitation will take place from 2pm-5pm at Schoedinger Northeast Funeral Home, 1051 East Johnstown Road, Gahanna, OH 43230. A brief visitation and service will be held the following morning, March 15th, at the funeral home from 10am-12am, with military ceremony taps and gun salute following.
