

Robert William Knapp, 81, Saturday, August 16, 2025. Born April 21, 1944. Preceded in death by parents, Herman A. and Wilhelmina Knapp and brothers Herman H. and Donald J. Knapp. Survived by loving wife of 54 years, Mary V.; daughters and sons-in-law, Stephanie (Ed) Thomas of Gahanna and Julie (Sean) Matheny of Port Charlotte, FL; grandchildren Duncan Thomas, Jillian Heter, and Abigail and Seth Matheny. Robert graduated from St. Charles Preparatory High School (1962), The Ohio State University, College of Engineering (1968), and Franklin University, College of Business (1972).
He proudly served as a lieutenant in the Army Corp of Engineers (1968-70) and in Vietnam (1969-70). He retired after 37 years with the Ohio Dept. of Transportation, as an Area/Design Engineer. He was employed part-time as a Senior Technical Adviser with HNTB’s Columbus office (2004-08) and ME Companies (2009-12). Robert was a member of Saint Matthew the Apostle Catholic Parish, the OSU Alumni Assoc. and the Ohio Professional Engineers Assoc. He was an avid Buckeye fan.
Friends may call Sunday, August 24, 2025, from 1–5 PM at Schoedinger Margarum, 1051 E. Johnstown Rd., Gahanna. Mass of Christian Burial will be held Monday, August 25, 2025, at 10 AM at Our Mother of Sorrows Chapel at St. Joseph Cemetery, 6440 S. High St., Lockbourne, Ohio 43137. Please meet directly at the cemetery on Monday morning.
