S. Sue Finke, beloved mother, sister and Grammy, passed away on June 16, 2024 at the age of 78 after battling multiple ailments over the last few years. She was born on April 13, 1946 in Atlantic City, New Jersey to the late Peter L. and Ruth (Hurshman) Walcoff.
Sue loved playing mahjong with the “ladies”, dancing the jitterbug with Mel, and sewing – especially dance costumes, and cooking family favorites like macagoogi and banana cake. Some of the things she cherished most were Jimmy Buffett's music, dove dark chocolate, vacationing in Myrtle Beach, frogs, Mickey Mouse and most importantly, her family. After Mel's passing, she seamlessly stepped into the role of the family matriarch. She was the glue who held everyone together through thick and thin or better described as difficult and joyous time. She encouraged her family to unite, forgive, and love fiercely, even if it was just for her.
Sue is survived by her children; Paul Finke, Honey (Dan) Whalen, Stephanie (Dennis) Brewster and Mitchell Finke, grandchildren; Blake, Nikki and Matthew Finke, Melanie and Sam Whalen, Rebecca and Evan Brewster; siblings; Julie, David and Amy Walcoff, sister-in-law, Lynn Walcoff and nieces and nephews; Brad Fisk, Andrea Aguayo, Jennifer Neuheiser, Abby Busch, Jessica Walcoff, Kasey Walcoff, Danny Walcoff and Kayle Walcoff. She is preceded in death by her loving husband Melvin Finke, parents; Peter and Ruth Walcoff and brothers; Michael and Robert Walcoff.
Services will be held on Wednesday, June 19th at 11:30am at Forest Lawn Memorial Garden’s Temple of Israel section, 5600 E Broad St, Columbus, OH 43213.
