Sandy was raised in Columbus, Ohio, the eldest daughter of Betty and Maynard Meyer. She was a proud graduate of Mifflin High School and Capital University. She was the wife of Frank Byers Jr. and devoted mother to Frank Byers III, Blaine (Kendra) Byers, and Elizabeth (Steve) Byers Gaubert. She was the cherished grandmother of Bryan, Brittany, Brooke, Brandon Byers; Cameron, Jordan, (Julia) Byers; Laine, Reed, Ren, Lille, Maren, Ryen Gaubert, and loving sister to Sharon Harlan of Stuart, Florida.
Sandra earned her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Capital University and built a life of service to her community. She was the owner of the Wyandot Inn restaurant and dedicated countless hours to numerous charitable organizations and causes. She served as past president of the Women’s Board of Children’s Hospital, the March of Dimes Women’s Board, and the Franklin Park Conservatory Women’s Board. She was a lifetime member of Twig 100 of Children’s Hospital, a member of the Junior League of Columbus, and a volunteer with Planned Parenthood. Sandra served on the board of trustees for both Ballet Met and the Columbus Metropolitan Club, chaired March of Dimes committee events, and was opening night chairman for the Festival of Trees. She was a charter member of the Heart Association Women’s Heartbeat Board and a member of the Circle of Women of Action for Children. Sandra also served as registration chairman for the Muirfield Memorial Tournament and food chairman for Project HOPE’s Hope Ball. In addition, she served on committees for Players Theatre and the Columbus Symphony. Her love and dedication to her Columbus community were vast and unwavering. A woman who genuinely cared for all people, Sandra will be remembered for her warmth, dedication, and legacy of service.
Sandra wanted all to know that the greatest loves of her life were found in her relationships with her family and friends. Always in her thoughts were her oldest friend, Patricia Collier, as well as dear friends Linn Hall and Wendy Gabriel. Sandy’s grandchildren filled her life with meaning and delight. She wanted them to always remember the specialness they shared together as cousins at Grandma’s Slumber Party or on annual trips to Frankenmuth, Florida, or elsewhere. She left a legacy to many as a role model for a life well lived, with integrity and an abundance of love and joy to share.
Family will gather privately in remembrance, as was her wish.
