1944 – 2022
On April 10, 2022 this earthly world lost a beautiful soul, Steve Grossman, 77, of Westerville OH after a valiant battle with cancer. Preceded in death by his parents Arne and Robyn Grossman of Columbus OH, he is survived by his loving life-partner of over 30 years, Meg MacLeod; his children Jimmy Grossman and Gene Saladna of Orlando FL and Tammy and Blake Thompson of Tampa FL; granddaughter Raegan Thompson of Sarasota FL; and grandson Cooper Thompson of Tampa FL. He is also survived by his brother and sister-in-law Jeff and Anita Grossman; sister Candi Grossman Shoor of Columbus; and many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.
Born and raised in Columbus, OH, Steve graduated from the Kentucky Military Institute and earned his business management degree from OSU. He followed his father and grandfather into the recycling and waste management industry, a career spanning over 60 years including creation of his own businesses and environmental consulting. He was also a consummate salesman during his years spent in FL.
Steve was the quintessential people person and never met a stranger. Empathetic and generous to extreme, he was a natural networker and ardent supporter of those he loved and believed in. He created lemonade out of lemons. He was a mentor to many, young and old, and gave freely of his time and knowledge, including guest lecturing in environmental science at OSU and Columbus State, lending an ear to a friend in need, and navigating the waters of his beloved Hoover Reservoir or the Gulf of Mexico. His warmth, humor, and love of life embraced all people and knew no boundaries. He saw the good in all, and they in him.
A private celebration in Steve’s honor will be held on May 22, 2022. At that time, a snapshot video of his life will be posted on this website and we welcome you to add your own memories, photos or videos to share.
Donations in Steve’s memory to the charity of your choice to fight cancer, support the arts, or to protect the environment are greatly encouraged - Suggestions are the American Cancer Society, Columbus Museum of Art, and Ocean Allies of Clearwater Beach, FL.
