

Susan Lynn Gochoel (nee Wotowski), age 77, formerly of Gahanna, Ohio passed away on May 19, 2025. She was born on January 22, 1948, to the late John and Pauline (Wendt) Wotowski. Susan is lovingly remembered by her children, Robert III (Amy) Gochoel and Erica Bednar; her five cherished grandchildren, Anna, Raegan, and Jonathan Gochoel, and Chase and Emerson Bednar; and her sister, Judith (William) Dritshulas. She is also survived by many extended family members and dear friends. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband and best friend of 46 years, Robert William Gochoel Jr.; her son-in-law, Bradley Bednar; her brother-in-law, Gary Gochoel; and other treasured members of her extended family.
Susan was born and raised in Cleveland, Ohio, and graduated from James Ford Rhodes High School. She went on to earn a Bachelor of Science in Education from The Ohio State University. Susan dedicated nearly 30 years to educating young minds. She spent the majority of her career in elementary education with Columbus City Schools, as a 1st grade teacher at East Linden Elementary School for many of those years, where she made a lasting impact on countless students and colleagues.
Susan was deeply devoted to her family, friends and neighbors. She especially cherished her role as a grandmother, finding her greatest joy in the time spent with her grandchildren. She also had a special love for her pets (both cats and dogs), who brought her comfort and companionship. Throughout her life, Susan enjoyed traveling to new places and exploring. In particular, a cruise to Alaska with her sister created many fond memories. After retiring, she enjoyed spending time with friends, whether that was having an extended lunch or discussing the latest books in her book club. Her legacy of love and devotion will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
Please join us in honoring the life of Susan during a visitation Friday, May 23, 2025, from 5 p.m. - 7 p.m. at SCHOEDINGER NORTHEAST, 1051 East Johnstown Road, Gahanna, OH. The funeral service will begin at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, May 24, 2025, at Central College Presbyterian Church, 975 S Sunbury Rd, Westerville, OH. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to Central College Presbyterian Church, the Christopher and Dana Reeve Foundation or Superficial Siderosis Research Alliance.
