many and a super duper paratrooper.
I believe Dad to be watching us right now. I can hear his voice saying …
Debbie…what are you guys doing? I said no fuss.
Well, Dad, the answer is simple, we are doing it for a fabulous send off for you,
complete with a little humor, because we know you have a good view of what’s
going on. We are making you watch this, much like you always made Marsha
ride the elevators to the highest floor whenever you could, so you and she could
see the best view.
Dad had a fabulous sense of humor and a terrific laugh, which made you want to
laugh right along with him, no matter what he said. He was a fun, loving, kind and
a caring man, who enjoyed camping, fishing and golf, but his greatest enjoyment
was spending time with his family. That and throwing out one liners from his quick
wit and sarcasm.
Dad has always loved birds, parakeets being in my bedroom when I was a
toddler is one of my first memories. So I don’t think it surprised anyone, when
Dad got a macaw parrot and named him Friday. He loved this bird for many
years, probably… more than his own kids. There really are no words to
adequately describe how much dad loved Friday. So I guess if there’s a place in
the afterlife where old birds go, then that’s where you will find Dad and Friday.
Dad’s excitement was almost ALWAYS palpable. He could get excited over
watching the grass grow… seriously.
But having a fresh coke in a koozie was a particularly exciting thing for Dad. He
would always offer a swig… but you could NEVER… have the first swig, because
according to dad, that swig… was ALWAYS the best swig!
Dad and Marsha loved to travel. It was unfortunate that for 2 years they felt they
could not travel. Of course even without Covid my brother Steve and I would not
have seen him getting off of a plane in Washington State anymore because he
was too afraid to fly. Someone who jumped out of planes during the Vietnam
war, would not get on a plane any more at all… ALL because he watched too
many tv shows about plane crashes…go figure….
Dad leaves behind his loving, wonderful wife Marsha, it took a few tries but he
finally found true love in Marsha, and we know she loves him back dearly and
fiercely.
He leaves behind 5 children, which he taught us all the spirit of adventure, and a
couple of us, how NOT to spend a dollar.
7 grandchildren which he taught to love plants and animals as much as he did by always taking them to the conservatory and to the zoo. Two of his favorite
places.
3 great grandchildren, which we will continue to pass along the spirit of Steve’s
adventures.
Dad was a huge Cleveland Browns fan, he requested 6 pallbearers, from the
team, so he can be let down …..one last time. Sorry Dad, they can’t let you
down again…because you are being cremated.
A lot of people say “fly high” when someone dies, we know Dad is not “flying
high” because he watched too much tv. He rode the elevator to the highest floor
and is in the corner room with Friday, getting the best view of us making too
much of a fuss.
We love you Dad. We will all miss you forever.
