Walter Curtis Doran

Walter Curtis Doran age 94 from New Albany, Ohio passed on to eternal life on January 29th 2024 surrounded by his loving wife of 72 years and other family members. He was born on March 7th 1929. Walter was preceded in his passing by his father Willis Stanley Doran, his mother Gettie (Beem) Doran, and his brother Stanley Ronald Doran (Fontnae).

Walter grew up and lived in the New Albany, Ohio area most of his life. He enjoyed family, friends, flying, swimming, diving, ice skating, sledding, skiing, croquet, volleyball, and camping. Walter worked various jobs before starting to work with his brother Stanley raising funds for and training guide dogs for the blind. After 22 years training guide dogs, he opened his own dog training business, Doran’s Canine College, which he ran for over 50 years. Walter was a long time member of the New Albany United Methodist Church and of the New Albany Lions Club.

In 1951 he married Lois E. (Bender) Doran. Together they have four children: Christy Houmes (Dale), Maria Richard (Gary), Kim Doran (Emily) and Walter Curtis Doran Jr. (Michele). In addition they have seven grandchildren: Amber Houmes, Joshua Houmes (Kassi), Andrew Doran, Katelyn Doran (Kiel), Nicholas Doran, Alexandra Doran, and Michael Doran.

Friends and family may gather at the New Albany United Methodist Church, 20 Third St., New Albany Ohio 43054 on February 9th to celebrate Walter’s life. Visitation will begin at 10AM, a Celebration of Life service at 11:30, grave side burial at 1PM and a light meal around 1:30PM.
