

Born on August 25, 1943, Betty dedicated much of her life to nurturing her family and serving her community through her work and volunteer activities. Betty worked for 19 years as a Unit Secretary at Carraway Hospital in Birmingham, AL, where she was beloved for her dedication and compassion. Her love for helping others extended beyond her professional life into her personal passions. She was an active member of New Hope Ministries Church in Coalburg, AL, where she enjoyed cooking for family, friends, and church events, as well as engaging in sewing and crafts. Betty's life was marked by a profound commitment to her family.
Betty is survived by her daughters, Karen Taylor and Kathy (Mike) McDermott; daughter-in-law, Terri Alexander; grandchildren, Paige Myrick, Kyle (Laura) Alexander, Jordan (Devon) Taylor, Alyssa Taylor, Blake (Shannah) McDermott, Stacie (Robert) McGruder, Hailey Morgan, Brad Alexander, Amber (Jacob) O’Donnell, Jonathan (McKenzie) Alexander; and 21 great-grandchildren. She also leaves behind her siblings, Gladys (Tommy) Penny, Rose (Frank) Vickery, Mary (Michael) Harpman, and brother Danny Gurganus, along with many nieces and nephews.
Betty was preceded in death by her parents, Aire Willard (Bill) and Martha Gurganus; her husband of 60 years, Joseph JB Alexander; sons, Kenneth and Keith Alexander; son-in-law, Shane Taylor; grandson, Chad Alexander; and daughter-in-law, Debbie Alexander.
The family will welcome friends at Ridout's Gardendale Chapel, Gardendale, AL, for a viewing on Saturday, February 15, 2025, from 1:00 to 2:00 pm, followed by a memorial service. Betty will be laid to rest at the Walker Chapel Memorial Gardens in Fultondale, AL.
