

Cora retired from the United States Postal Service where she served as the Post Master of the New Castle Post Office. She was a faithful member of the New Castle United Methodist Church for many years, taught Sunday school, and was a MYF Counselor. She was a member of Ruth Chapter Three Eastern Star where she served as Worthy Matron for several years. She loved her family dearly and was devoted to taking care of them in every way she could. She will be greatly missed.
Cora was preceded in death by her parents, Cora and Morgan Felix Wood; her husband of 60 years, M.T. “Red” McGowen; a sister, Margaret Wood; a grandson, George Leslie; and two sons-in-law, James E. Hill and Walter Leslie.
Cora is survived by two precious daughters, Brenda Leslie and Shelley Hill; two grandchildren, Wayne Leslie (Regina) and Malinda Johnsonhill “Hill” (Kelly); three great grandchildren, Maria Leslie, Jada Leslie, and Dayton James Johnsonhill; great-great granddaughter, Haley Landon (Kevin); great-great-great grandson, Kye Taylor Landon.

Celebration of Life Services will be on Friday, January 3rd, 2020 at Ridout’s Gardendale Chapel with a time of visitation to begin at 12:00 noon; service at 2:00pm, followed by her burial in Oakwood Memorial Gardens, Gardendale, AL.
