Irene, a resident of Mount Olive, AL, passed away at the age of 83. Irene loved her church, family, and Alabama football. She volunteered at the North Jefferson Women’s Center. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Mount Olive where she sang in the Amazing Grey Choir and enjoyed her time hanging with them.
Irene was preceded in death by her first husband, George C. Pitts, and her second husband, Jim McConnell; son, Mark A. Pitts and a sister, Faye Jernigan.
Irene is survived by her son, George C. Pitts, Jr. (Brenda); daughter, Melany Shipp (Curtis) and a daughter in law, Anesa Pitts; brothers, Leldon Smith (Judy) and Curtis Smith (Pat); sister, Louise Cunningham; grandchildren, Dianne Pitts Kelley (Greg), Clayton Pitts, Brittany Shipp, Holly Shipp, Pamela Davis (Wesley), Michael Gregg, and Daniel Pitts; great granddaughter, Isabella Davis; many nieces, nephews and a host of friends.
Services were held on Monday, Dec 5, 2016 at First Baptist Church Mount Olive followed by her burial in Elmwood Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations made to Jacob’s Chest at FBCMO.
