George, “Georgie,” “PawPaw,” was born on September 5, 1939 to Alma Jean and George Williamson, in Birmingham, Alabama. After graduating from Philips High School in 1958, George joined the Navy then returned to Birmingham where he began working for ACIPCO.
George was a giver and a helper. His family and friends will forever speak of his selfless service to others. As a father and husband, George’s girls, Sara, Laura and Jennifer, wanted for nothing. As a volunteer firefighter, a dedicated friend and neighbor, and Sunday school teacher, George’s community knew his generous spirit and desire for all to know the peace of God he found within his heart. George, or Pawpaw, shared his love for the outdoors with his daughters and grandchildren. He taught them how to care and appreciate the beauty of all of God’s creation down on the river.
In 1965, George met Sara in Birmingham, Alabama and were married at ACIPCO Methodist Church in July of 1966. George and Sara went on to have two children, Laura and Jennifer.
George began working for ACIPCO in 1965 and retired after more than 45 years of service. After retirement, George continued to enjoy fishing on the river and spending time with his family and friends.
George Strong Williamson, Jr. was predeceased by his mother, Alma Jean Williamson, his father, George Strong Williamson, Sr. and his brother, Theodore Larkin Williamson. He is survived by his wife, Sara Williamson, his daughters, Laura Malchus (Randy) and Jennifer Williamson, his grandchildren, Bailey Hill (Sydney) and Olivia Sheffield (Stanley), and his great-grandson, Edward Hill.
Visitation will be held at Ridout’s Gardendale Chapel on July 31, 2025 at 10:00am, with service immediately following at 11:00am. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Coosa Riverkeeper, an organization working to keep the river safe, clean and fun for all.
