

Harold Mitchell, Age 85, of Gardendale passed away peacefully on the evening of May 8th surrounded by family and friends. He was born in Blackcreek, Alabama on October 12th, 1930. He joined the Navy at the age of 16 and honorably served from 1946-1958 in the Supply Core.
He then spent over 30 years with the BJCTA as a public transportation operator serving the city of Birmingham before retiring. Harold’s sly sense of humor and uplifting nature made a fast and lasting impression on anyone he met. As a child, he fell in love with the sport of Baseball and passionately played for over 40 years. He then further served his community by becoming the President of the Fair Park youth baseball and softball league which allowed him to coach hundreds of children for many years. He thoroughly enjoyed playing golf with his sons, singing gospel music, coaching his wife’s Mid-Week bowling team, and serving the Lord at Unity Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife of 37 years Betty Anne Mitchell, his Sons Mike Mitchell (Carla), Tim Mitchell (Sallie), Mark Mitchell (Rose), Stepsons Tommy, Robin (Kelly), Lance (Susan), Stepdaughter Tammy, 9 grandsons, 5 granddaughters, 2 great-grandsons, and 5 great-granddaughters.
Visitation will be at Ridout’s Gardendale Chapel (2029 Decatur Hwy) on Tuesday, May 10th. Visitation from 5:30-8:00 PM for Family and from 6:00-8:00PM for Friends. Funeral Services and burial will be on Wednesday, May 11th at 12PM at Ridout’s Gardendale Chapel with a graveside service at Oakwood Memorial Gardens.
