Howell Kent Smith

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Howell Kent Smith ( Pap Pap ) on February 10, 2025, at the age of 61. Kent was a beloved son, brother, father, and grandfather whose kindness and vibrant spirit left a lasting impact on all who knew him.

Born to Robert Lynn Smith and Gail Southard, Kent grew up with his brother Kraig Smith and sisters Kelly Tian and Karen Acker. Family was always at the center of Kent’s life, and he carried this value forward as a devoted partner to his wife Christina Smith and as a father to his four children: Josh, Samantha, Pete, and Lawson Smith. He found immense joy in being “Pap Pap” to his eight grandchildren: Tripp, Shade, Von Howell, Nalani, Micah, Reign, Avyn, and Valerie.

Kent was a man of many passions. He loved the thrill of riding dirt bikes and spent countless hours on trails, embracing the freedom and adventure of the outdoors. His career in car sales was more than just a job; Kent had a natural talent for connecting with people and a knack for helping others find exactly what they needed. Above all, he cherished time spent with his family, creating memories filled with love and laughter.

Those who knew Kent will remember his warm smile, his unwavering loyalty, and his ability to light up a room with his presence. He taught us to appreciate life’s simple pleasures and to always hold those closest to us a little tighter.

Kent’s legacy lives on through his children, grandchildren, and all those whose lives he touched. His memory will be forever cherished in the hearts of his family and friends.

A celebration of Kent’s life will be held on Sunday, February 16th at Ridout’s in Gardendale, Al from 10 in the morning until noon.

Rest in peace, Kent. You are loved beyond measure and will be deeply missed.
