

Jim was born in Berea, Ohio. He moved to Birmingham in his early 20's. Jim served as a project manager for several construction companies over the years.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents, Bert and Edith Dunlea, and by a grandson, Jonathan Weygand. He is survived by his wife, Jean; daughters, Lisa Cagle, Jenny James, and Julie Dunlea; stepson, Daniel Price, and stepdaughter, Marta Hammonds; grandchildren Trey, Nikki, ReAnna, Justin, Jaxson, Cameron, Madison, Payton, Ryan, Joseph, Zoe, Jonathan, Macy, Haley, and Stephen; great-granddaughter, Lorelei; sisters, Kathy Davis, Pat Braun, and Peggy Curby; and his best friend since high school, Barry Beeler.
Jim loved his church, Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, and church family, especially the Thursday morning Bible study group. He was an active member of the Mt. Olive Group of Alcoholics Anonymous for over 25 years. Later in life, Jim decided to complete his college education and graduated from UAB, receiving a degree in Civil Engineering at the age of 61.
Jim loved traveling with his wife, cooking for his children and grandchildren, and UAB football and basketball. He spread love wherever he went. Jim will be greatly missed by his family and friends.

A visitation for James will be held Wednesday, August 30, 2023 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Ridout's Gardendale Chapel, 2029 Decatur Highway, Gardendale, AL 35071. A funeral service will occur Thursday, August 31, 2023 at 11:00 AM at Ridout's Gardendale Chapel.
