

J.D. was born in Buttehatche, Alabama in Marion County. He was a son of a sharecropper and moved many times farming the land in Marion, Winston, Fayette and Walker counties. He worked all his life for his wife and two daughters. He was long time member of the Church of Christ.
James was preceded in death by his loving wife, Verdis, of 70 years and by his parents Earlie Edward & Lillie Belle Ellis. He lost one brother, Charles Ellis to World War II and was preceded in death by his other brothers and sisters.
James is survived by his daughter, Frances Ellis-Myrex and husband, Ronnie and by daughter, Reba Wood and husband Bobby. He is also survived by grandchildren, Scott Wood (Jessica), Leah Perry, Allen Wood (Summer) and Rancey Perry (Jennifer), 10 great grandchildren and sister, Bertha Johnston.
The family wishes to extend their thanks to enhabit Hospice and staff and to our sitters whose care allowed him to stay in his own house.
Services will be officiated by his son in law, Bobby Wood.
A visitation for James will be held Thursday, January 5, 2023 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Ridout's Gardendale Chapel, 2029 Decatur Highway, Gardendale, AL 35071, followed by a funeral service at 11:00 AM.
James will be laid to rest in Mount Olive Cemetery, 3201 Mount Olive Road, Mount Olive, AL.
