

April 6, 1929 – April, 26, 2014
James a resident of Gardendale went home to be with his Savior at the age of 85. James proudly served our Nation in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. He retired from Harbert Construction which provided him with the chance to travel the world. James was a long-time member of the Gardendale Baptist Tabernacle where he was a devoted teacher of a men’s Sunday School class and faithfully served in the bus ministry and the visitation program.
James was preceded in death by his parents, Luther and Irene Cox Heath; his loving wife, Velma Tanner Heath; a son, Dr. Jerome Turner; brothers, Harry Heath, Charles Heath, Louis Heath and Oscar Heath and a sister, Martha Lovelace.
James is survived by a daughter, Pam Veal (Jerry); daughter-in-law, Judy Turner; brothers, Ray Heath and Luther Heath, Jr.; grandchildren, Alison Belcher (Robert), Amy Minish (Vic), Jeremy Veal, Gina Robertson (Brandon); great grandchildren, Annie Minish, Ava Minish, Max Belcher, Woods Robertson; numerous nieces, nephews and a host of friends.
A Celebration of Life service will be held at Ridout’s Gardendale Chapel on Wednesday, April 30, 2014 at 2:00pm with a visitation beginning at 12:30pm. Interment will follow in the Mt. Olive Cemetery.
