He was born February 7, 1916 in Cullman County, Alabama. Elbert was preceded in death by his parents, Robert Houston Howell and Jennie Lou (Spratlin) Howell and his wife of 65 years, Lorene (Freeman) Howell.
He served in the US Navy during World War II sailing to four continents over four oceans while stationed on three different ships. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather & great grandfather who enjoyed spending time with his family. He was a member of Pell City Church of Christ. Elbert served as an elder in several different congregations over the years.
Survivors include 4 daughters, JoAnn (Ron) Helms, Paulette (Chet) Simmons, Janice (Charlie) Nowlin and Deborah (Jeff) Biard, 11 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren and sister, Betty Bailey. Many thanks to his dedicated caregivers Carol Green, Betty Hamm and Sheryl Dubose.
Visitation will be at 10:00 a.m. with the service at 11:00 Thursday, May 1, 2014 at Ridout’s Gardendale Chapel with burial in Persimmon Grove Church of Christ cemetery. Kevin Heaton will officiate.
