

Jim graduated from Auburn University in Montgomery with a Bachler's Degree in History. He retired from Bellsouth after 38 years of service. He was a long-time member of Gardendale-Mt. Vernon United Methodist Church, Gardendale, AL and a member of the Gardendale Civitan Club. He was very passionate about gardening and enjoyed refinishing old furniture. He was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. Family was very important to him, and he loved spending time with his family.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents, Bar Carse and Beulah Mae Cook; his loving wife of 62 years, Sara Frances Edwards Cook; ten siblings, Lorena Baker, Curtis Cook, Gilbert Cook, Alma Cook, Elmer Cook, Helon Cook, Norwood Cook, Trudy Mae Pepe, Minnie Frances Phillips, and Joyce Sue Rigsby; daughter-in-law, Sue Cook; brother-in-law, John Edwards; sisters-in-law, Elba Edwards Skinner and Rebecca Edwards Gregg.
Jim is survived by his three children; David Cook (Chris), Steven Cook, and Carole Cook Pitard (Joe); one brother, Johnny Cook; brothers-in-law, Robert Edwards and Elwood Edwards; sister-in-law, Laura Gregory; seven grandchildren, Sarah Moore (John), Serena Minton (Brandon), Alanna Cook, Shelby Fuente (Justin), James Pitard, Joseph Pitard, and Catie Pitard; two great grandchildren, Taryn Moore and Nate Minton; 47 nieces and nephews and a host of friends.
Visitation for Jim will be held Tuesday, May 31, 2022 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Ridout's Gardendale Chapel, 2029 Decatur Highway, Gardendale, AL; a Celebration of Life Service at 11:00 AM, followed by burial in Oakwood Memorial Gardens, Gardendale, Alabama.
