

Jan C. Nelson, age 51, a lifelong resident of Tarrant, Alabama made her journey to be with her Lord and Savior on Monday, August 16, 2010. She was a charter member, former Sunday school secretary, and children’s Sunday school teacher at Center Point Independent Church and an avid scrap booker and homemaker. Jan loved to travel and make memories about all of her trips. She was preceded in death by her father, John Raymond Perkins, grandfather, R. B. Perkins, grandmother, Ola Mae Perkins and grandfather, French L. Meadows. Survivors include her loving husband of 23 years, Rex Alan Nelson; her beloved cat, Sir Gizmo; mother, Jean Meadows Perkins of Tarrant; grandmother, Iona Meadows of Gardendale; brothers: Jay and Jeff Perkins of Tarrant; sisters: Jackie S. Layne (Keith) of Murfreesboro, TN, Jill R. Mosley (Tom) of Tarrant and Joy D. Storey (Terry) of Warrior; sister-in-law, Vicki N. Pelfrey; and numerous nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held at Ridout’s Gardendale Chapel, 2029 Decatur Hwy., Gardendale AL 35071 from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. Wednesday. Her funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, August 19, 2010 at Center Point Independent Church, 1269 Huffman Road, Center Point AL 35215 with Dr. Charles E. Baker officiating. Burial will be in Oakwood Memorial Gardens in Gardendale. The family would like to express deepest appreciation to Dr. Kevin Windsor and the staff of Trinity Medical Center and Dr. Stephen Strickland, Dr. Kassim, Dr. Schuening and Dr. Jagasia and all of the wonderful nurses and Patient Care Associates at the Stem Cell Outpatient Unit at Vanderbilt Medical Center in Nashville for their kind, caring and professional care of Jan during these hard and long times.
