

Joe was a faithful member of The Church At Liberty Park, a church he dearly loved and attended regularly until his health declined. He was known as a true gentleman and a friend to everyone who knew him.
Joe had a lifelong passion for technology “TECH” and enjoyed learning about the latest innovations. He built an impressive collection of technology over the years. He was also a dedicated ham radio operator for many years. In addition, he had a deep love for automobiles, especially Corvettes.
He retired after a 30-year career with Jefferson County Environmental Services.
Joe is survived by his beloved wife, Debby Porter Willoughby; step-sons Brandon L. Porter of Irondale, Alabama, and Brad Porter (Katrina) and step-grandson Huston Porter of Mountain Brook, Alabama. He is also survived by his brothers, Kenneth Willoughby (Becky) and David Willoughby (Paula); his sister, Nancy Willoughby Duke (Daniel); and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, James Marvin Willoughby and Clytee Ilavee Blalock Willoughby, as well as his first wife Renee.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Mission’s Fund at The Church At Liberty Park.
Services will be held Saturday, May 9, 2026, at Ridout’s Gardendale Chapel. Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m., followed by the funeral service at 11:00 a.m. Burial will follow at Oakwood Memorial Gardens in Gardendale.
Pall bearers will be Matt Duke, Brandon Porter, Darell Wilhite, Eddie Smith, James Willoughby and Matt Pope.
